Laura Ferris Anderson

Laura Ferris Anderson, a Chicago based financial services executive, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston MA, on May 4, 2019.

The awards release on Ms. Anderson noted the following: "An active civic leader in Chicago, Anderson serves on the Boards of Directors of the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center, MATTER Chicago, and the Wood Family Foundation. She is an advisory board member of Chicago Sister Cities International and Chicago NEXT, and is a founder of the President's Leadership Council of the Field Museum, and the President's Council of Shedd Aquarium.

"Anderson's leadership at Georgetown began as she was a member of the NSO Staff and chaired the senior auction as a member of the Senior Class Committee. As an alumni volunteer, she co-chaired her 5th reunion, served as leader of her 10th and 15th year reunions, and served on the Club Boards of New York City, Washington D.C. (co-president), San Francisco (president) and Chicago. Anderson has served more than three terms as a member of the Board of Governors, and has been instrumental to the success of two John Carroll Awards Weekends held in Chicago, serving as co-chair in 2012.


James S. Eisenstein

James Eisenstein, a Boston based technology executive, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston MA, on May 4, 2019.

The awards release on Mr. Eisenstein noted the following: "James Eisenstein is the Chairman and CEO of Grupo TorreSur and the Executive Chairman of Eaton Towers, and is passionate about all things Georgetown. After graduating from Georgetown, Eisenstein continued his education at The Wharton School and the Law School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned an MBA and a J.D. After working at Vinson & Elkins, and then Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, he became corporate counsel to Home Shopping Network. He then became COO of the Amaturo Group, before co-founding wireless tower companies American Tower Corporation and Optasite, Inc.

Eisenstein has served on the Board of Advisors of the McDonough School, as co-fundraising chair for the Class of 1980 reunion, on the Board of Regents and its executive committee, on the Campaign Executive Council of For Generations To Come: The Campaign for Georgetown, and as board chairman of the Georgetown Scholarship Program.

He and his wife, Beth (N'80), recipient of the 2019 William Gaston Alumni Award, and their family have endowed a chair in Catholic Studies, have made an endowed gift to the Georgetown Scholarship Program and an endowed gift to the development of the Hariri Building. They are also co-chairs of John Carroll Weekend 2019. They have three children, all Hoyas: Jenny (C'09), Katie (C'12) and James (C'16)."


Tyree P. Jones Jr.

Tyree Jones, a Washington-based attorney, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston MA, on May 4, 2019.

The awards release on Mr. Jones noted the following: "Tyree Jones, a financial industry group partner at global law firm, Reed Smith LLP, has continuously displayed leadership and service to Georgetown's alumni community.

His practice focuses on complex class action litigation involving commercial, employment, and civil rights claims. He has obtained favorable jury and bench trial verdicts in matters alleging misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition, discriminatory business practices, and wage and hour violations. Although a resident in Reed Smith's Washington, D.C. office, Jones maintains a thriving national litigation practice and provides daily advice and counsel to clients on a variety of issues including executive transitions in mergers and acquisitions, protection of proprietary information, employee classification, and workplace violence initiatives.

Jones has served on the university's Board of Governors and the National Law Alumni Board and chaired the African-American Advisory Board until January 2019. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and is chair of Georgetown Law Center's Affairs Sub-Committee. In 2006, Jones received the Paul R. Dean Alumni Award, given to Law Center alumni for their contributions and service to the law school and the profession."


Edward W. Machir

Ed Machir, a Washington-based management consultant and adjunct professor at the McDonough School of Business, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston MA, on May 4, 2019.

The awards release on Mr. Machir noted the following: "He is an advisory board member of Cross Country Consulting, a firm dedicated to organizational management needs and optimized performance and business growth. Prior to serving in this capacity, Machir was an assurance partner at Price Waterhouse Coopers until his retirement in 2013.

Active within the Georgetown community, Machir served as an adjunct professor and professor of practice for McDonough, member of the McDonough School Parents' Council, and president of Hoyas Unlimited, the annual fundraising and alumni relations sector of Georgetown Athletics. He also acted as chair of the Undergraduate Admissions Office Board of Advisors. Machir is a long-time supporter and mentor of the Georgetown Scholarship Program. Committed to giving back, he and his children have established the Machir Family Scholarship for students who are NCAA athletes in the McDonough school with demonstrated need.

He has four children, three of whom graduated from Georgetown."


April McClain-Delaney

April McClain-Delaney, a Washington-based attorney, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston MA, on May 4, 2019.

The awards release on Ms. Delaney noted the following: "Having more than 25 years of communications law, regulatory affairs, and child advocacy experience in both private sector and non-profit engagements, she currently serves as Washington director and board member of Common Sense Media. Her policy work centers on digital citizenship issues, such as tech addiction, privacy, and teen anxiety concerns; and how media impacts and empowers women. Prior to this role, she was assistant general counsel and a regulatory director at Orion Network Systems, and an associate at the law firm of Cohn & Marks.

McClain-Delaney is also a board member and nominating chair of the International Center for Research on Women, a member of the National Advisory Council for Northwestern University's School of Communications, and member on the board of directors of the Sun Valley Community School. As a champion for women in leadership, she is an advisory board member of Georgetown's Women, Peace, and Security Institute. Her previous roles include serving as chair of the Board of Visitors of Georgetown Law Center, vice-president of the Congressional Families Club, and task force member with the Meridian Center's Women's Leadership Council.

McClain-Delaney is active on issues related to Congressional families, including serving as co-chair of the Congressional Club's First Lady's Luncheon, and three times co-chair of Congressional Spouse Events associated with the National Prayer Breakfast. Prior to receiving her J.D. from Georgetown Law, she graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in communication studies. She is a member of the D.C. Bar and the FCBA. In 2014, McClain-Delaney received the Paul R. Dean Award from Georgetown Law. She is also the recipient of other awards, including the Northwestern University Alumni Award, the Patrice Wallace Caritas Service honor, and the Common-Sense Media Award.

The Delaneys have established an endowed chair in public interest law at Georgetown Law Center, a research chair at Northwestern University, and a research fellowship at the Women, Peace and Security Institute. April and her husband Congressman John Delaney (L'88) live in Potomac, MD and have four daughters."


George J. Peacock

George Peacock, a Washington-based financial advisor and a past president of the Georgetown University Alumni Association, received the John Carroll Award in ceremonies held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston MA, on May 4, 2019.

The awards release on Mr. Peacock noted the following: "George J. Peacock graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences in 1984. While a student at Georgetown, he worked at the Yates Field House, drove a GUTS bus, and sang with the Georgetown Chimes. A 30-year financial services veteran, he currently serves as a Principle at Compendium Finance and advisor to Plynty, a retirement app and robo-advisor. He is a co-author, with Michael Edesess, of "The 3 Simple Rules of Investing: Why Everything You've Heard About Investing Is Wrong-And What To Do Instead" and "The 3 Simple Rules of Investing" blog.

George is a long-time Georgetown volunteer. After leaving the Alumni Association as staff, he became active in the Alumni Club of Washington, D.C, serving as Treasurer for 10 years and President for two terms. He is active on his Class Committee, a former President of the Georgetown Chimes, and a current member of the Georgetown University Alumni and Student Federal Credit Union (GUASFCU) external advisory board, the largest student-run credit union in the country. He is a recipient of the Alumni Association's William Gaston Alumni Award for outstanding service and has served on the Association's Board of Governors and as its president. He has also served on the University's Board of Directors and Board of Regents.

His interests include a cappella singing, digital tokens and cryptocurrencies, and stand-up comedy, which he performs as part of the "Cocktails & Comedy" duo with cocktail historian Phillip Greene. He has four children, Duncan (C'16), June, Hayley, and Mackenzie, and lives in Ashburn, VA."
